A pet shop in Caledonian Road in Islington has been recommended for one of the council’s green plaques, for featuring in a famous Monty Python sketch.

It has recently come to light that Cally Pets was used to film Monty Python’s famous ‘dead parrots’ sketch back in 1971.

Michael Palin recalls filming in an Islington pet store in his memoirs, and as Cally Pets has been the only pet shop in the area for decades, it’s owner decided to do some digging and found out that it was his very own store that was used.

Green plaques are given to historical places, people or events in the borough, and Cally Pets has been nominated for this rather unique reason.
