There's a different theme to the Carnaby Street celebrations every year - this time it's Queen-themed, marking the release of the 'Bohemian Rhapsody' film.

At 17:00 on Carnaby Street, the annual Christmas party will kick off tonight.

Entry is free and attendees can expect four hours of discounts, special offers and live music.

There’s a different theme every year – this time it’s Queen-themed, marking the release of the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ film.

It’s a timely celebration of the movie, then.

But is it a little early to be celebrating Christmas?

The organisers say that having these kinds of events this early means that people can get their Christmas shopping in early.

Part of the answer could also come in the 20% discounts being offered at over 90 stores on Carnaby Street tonight.

The shops include Ray Ban, Dr. Martens and Vans. Embracing the Christmas sprit early on can only be good for sales in Carnaby’s stores.

This comes at a time of real trouble for the high street.

A few weeks ago, Debenhams announced up to 50 store closures, whilst just last night Marks and Spencer reported a fall in clothes sales.

It seems, then, that high street shops are having to come up with creative ways of driving footfall in a marketplace increasingly dominated by online shopping. A Christmas shopping party nice and early could do just that.

And with events like this popping up all over the capital, it may be time for all of us to banish our inner Scrooge and just accept the festive fun.
