Infamous East End gangsters, Ronnie and Reginald Kray

Whilst leading the notorious gang ‘The Firm,’ the twins incurred a laundry list of crimes including robbery, arson, assaults and the murders of infamous Criminals Jack ‘the hat’ McVitie and George Cornell.
A Knightsbridge nightclub gig also allowed them to mingle with high profile celebrities including Hollywood stars Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra. By the 60s, the Kray’s status had shifted from common criminals, to national celebrities.
However the people immediately around them had a much more intimate experience of the duo.
The Krays famously had breakfast every day in Bethnal Green restaurant, E. Pellicci.
Anna Pellicci, the owner’s daughter spoke to City News saying, ‘They were local boys, they lived on Vallance road which is just the next turning. They used to come in apparently every morning and they used to come have their breakfast, always sat in this corner here.’
When asked what the twins were like in their downtime she told us, ‘Apart from being immaculately dressed, their manners, their personality, was absolutely fantastic.’
The impact of the Kray twins’ fame is still felt by locals in the present day. Ms Pellicci informed City News that the restaurant still has visitors due to their status as a Kray favourite.
The restaurant was also featured in blockbuster movie and Kray twin biopic, ‘Legend,’ starring Tom Hardy.

Pellicci said, ‘We still have visitors, especially a couple of years ago they filmed the ‘Legend’ film in here, and after that for about six months, they’d come from all over the country.’
Recently, further attention has been brought to the Kray’s homestead, Bethnal Green by the allure of its chequered past.
Just two weeks ago, the Kray twins’ former East End boozer was put on the market for £1.2 million. Now converted into a luxurious three bedroom house, the bethnal green property has caught the eye of multiple celebrities including Robert Pattinson and Paloma Faith.
