A meeting last night was held in the Westminster Arms to raise awareness of what could happen if the beer rate is increased.
The beer industry in the UK provides nearly 900,000 jobs and contributes 23 billion pounds annually to the UK Economy. But, this could change from next week if beer duty is increased.
Great Britain already pays the second highest tax rate on beer in the whole of Europe. In London alone the beer industry provides at least 93,000 jobs with 4,000 pubs and 80 breweries.
If the beer duty increases from next week it is feared that it will have a huge effect on employment including your local pub.
James Price, the campaign manager of Taxpayers alliance and organiser of the event said : ” we hope that the pubclity around this event and events we have coming around the country will persuade the chancellor by keeping the beer duty down”
