Camesquat, an activist group campaigning against homelessness, today announced it could cost up to half a million pounds to stop them squatting in a Shoreditch building.

The group has reportedly put up barricades, tripods and door locks in recent activity to ensure that ‘no-one gets through’. The upmarket building in Islington is being occupied by the group who simply entered the property through an open door. While the building is reportedly empty, the Camelot logo is clearly displayed on the outside.

Local authorities have threatened to remove the group by force, and have been met by the angry response of the Camesquat supporters, who have said they will swarm the area if attempts are made to evict them.

The group started the sit-in as part of their protest to highlight London’s lack of affordable housing. The irony of occupying the HQ of a former property management firm has not been lost on the activists, who has remained the property Camesquat.

It still remains that squatting in residential buildings is a criminal offence however squatting in commercial buildings a civil offence.
