Camden and Islington council are joining forces with local LBGT group the LBGT Forum to offer a whole host of special events, screenings and exhibitions in celebration of LGBT history month.
This year’s LGBT exhibition at the St Pancras Conference Centre opened on Monday and focuses on mapping the LBGT experience across the world.
Thirty seven artists from Camden, Islington and across London have contributed in celebration of LBGT history month.
Mary Faulkner, one of the artists that contributed to the exhibition, told City News, ‘it was important to her to support the LGBT community with her art.’
The Islington museum is also celebrating gay pride with an exhibition opening today on the life of Derek Jarman.
Derek Jarman was an artist and film director who was trained at the prestigious Slade School of Art and spent four years living on Liverpool Road, which will now bear a blue plaque dedicated to him.
On Thursday at 6pm, the Islington museum will be screening Britain on Film: LGBT Britain, which traces the changing faces of the British gay community with films from 1909 all the way to 1994.
All of the events are free to attend.
