The Duma Polska: Polish pride party was launched last night. It plans to field one hundred candidates for the local council elections in May.
Prince John Zylinski, who once challenged Nigel Farage to a sword duel, hopes the party will defend the rights of all minorities, not just Poles.
Top of their agenda is to get a one hundred foot tall monument built in central London. The monument will commemorate the Polish pilots that died during the Battle of Britain. They also want to make Europhobia a crime and to give all the Europeans that are already in Britain full British citizenship.
The largest minority in the UK
The Prince said at the launch,
“It’s the first time that Polish people in this country, the largest minority in this country, will have a voice. Polish people have spent all their time in the closet, getting on with their lives and working hard. So we know about the hard times, and we can relate like that to anybody who feels second-class here from any community. We’re not a nationalist grouping. We’re standing up for all the nationalities in this country.”
The party are confident about their launch, but some members recognise that this is just the start, and success will have to be built over time.
Prospective Duma Polska councillor Iwona Dankowska said at the launch, “We realise we won’t have great numbers of supporters, but we think it’s a starting point. So maybe in five or ten years hopefully we will be big.”
Not everyone, however, believes such a party will be a success in the UK, and that there are better alternatives.
Steve Bray, a pro-EU anti-Brexit campaigner, said, “I don’t think there’s a need for this party. I think parties represent everybody regardless of who they are and that’s the way democracy should work. What we actually need at the moment is a coalition of every party to bring people back together.”
