Most famously Morgan led England to their 2019 cricket world cup win after a dramatic final against New Zealand.
Morgan is England’s leading run scorer in ODI scoring 7701 runs. He is also the T20 record run scorer with 2458 runs in 115 games.
The 35 year old first took over captaincy of short form cricket, one day international and T20 cricket, in 2014. Under his tenure, England reached world number one in both formats.
However Morgan has struggled for form and fitness in recent games.
In England’s last short form series against the Netherlands, Morgan got a golden duck in the first game, followed by a duck in the second game before missing the final game in the series.
This is particularly disappointing for Morgan considering how many runs his team mates scored in the series, with three centuries in the first game alone.
This has meant Morgan is actively considering retiring from international cricket.
If he is to step down, wicket keeper batsman Jos Butler has been considered as his natural replacement.
England’s next short form series begins on 7 July against India, with the T20 World Cup beginning in Australia this winter.
