A witness to a racist hate crime on the tube alleges the victim saw no point in reporting it.

The witness, Nushy Rose, recorded the hate crime as the preparator was being kicked off the tube.

She says she’s “…never seen an attack like this before in my life”.

She said that when she asked for the victim’s email so she could file a police report, the victim replied “What’s the point? This kind of thing happens all the time”.

The incident took place in the earlier hours of Sunday morning on the tube.

Rose says the perpetrator first started singing Christmas carols and urged other passengers to join in with her.

The passengers on the tube ignored her, which irritated the perpetrator, who began recording the other passengers.

Rose says that in response the victim, a black woman, turned away as she didn’t want to be filmed.

This frustrated the preparator who moved closer to the victim who in turn grabbed her phone which according to Rose triggered “a furious racist response”.

Siwan Hayward, Director of Compliance, Policing Operations and Security at TfL says: “This is a shocking hate crime incident. No one should ever have to fear or experience abuse and harassment when using our network, and TfL takes a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of abuse. We are deeply sorry that this passenger has experienced this on our network and will assist the British Transport Police with any investigation.”

Police say the earlier it is reported, the stronger the evidence they have to help ensure that perpetrators face justice.
