On Sunday evening, Shoreditch-based community arts hub Rich Mix hosted Voices For Gaza.
The event represented the “hugeness of Palestinian beauty” said Amani Saeed, one of its guest curators.
Saeed worked with Sara Al Ghanem and Sufia Sadullah to assist the charity foundation Arts Canteen in curating Voices. The organisation aims to empower Arab artists in the world and creating a space for their voices to advocate for change.
The night took attendees on a voyage through Palestinian culture through art. Mediums included the music of sitars and harps, spoken word and poetry performance, and film. The venue boasted Palestinian-sourced foods, books, and even a henna station to raise money for Gaza.
Curators reassured attendees that this was a safe space to reflect, learn, grieve, and heal through the 4-hour night. They leaned on one another, a times getting emotional during the performances, which ended with a healing circle.
All proceeds are going to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) to support essential aide to the people in Gaza.
