The attack occurred on High Road, Chadwell Heath

Six men were arrested today after a homophobic attack took place in Chadwell Heath in October.

The group of six men, aged 16-22, were arrested in their homes in the early hours of this morning.

Chief Inspector Chris Nixon gave an overview of the arrests stating that the incidents were an “unprovoked assault on two men, that left one requiring hospital treatment.”

The attack occurred on Sunday, the 1st of October at 17:30pm. The victims, two men in their 20s, were verbally abused and physically assaulted as they walked along High Road in Chadwell Heath.

As the attack progressed, one of the aggressors struck the first victim over the head with a piece of wood.

The victim suffered bruising and several cuts. He was sent to hospital immediately and was discharged promptly after.

The second victim did not suffer any physical harm, but was left feeling disturbed by the incident.

Officers investigating the homophobic attack have stated, “these arrests will send out a signal to those who think they can get away with homophobic abuse and violence.”

The investigation is being overseen by an LGBTQ+ liaison officer, who will continue to provide support to the victims.
