The London Assembly expressed concern over ongoing deaths and serious injuries by London buses

The London Assembly has called on the Mayor to update his road safety plan.
Vision Zero is the Mayor’s ambition for no one to be killed in or by a London bus by 2030, and for all deaths and serious injuries from road collisions to be eliminated in the city by 2041.
Whilst the Assembly supported the Mayor’s aspiration, it said it was ‘very concerned’ about how unlikely it was to be met on current trends.
Transport for London’s Bus Safety strategy released this time last month, shows that more people were killed or seriously injured by London’s buses in 2022 than when the Mayor took office in 2016.
The Mayor’s 70% reduction in people killed or seriously injured in 2022 was also not met.
Neil Garratt, who proposed the motion said: “While the Mayor has set a target of zero deaths or injuries from London buses by 2030, he is not on track to achieve it. Indeed, bus safety is getting worse, not better.”
The Assembly suggested that as an immediate step, the TfL Commissioner should include both the number of bus-related KSIs (killed or seriously injured) as well as more detail on those KSIs in the Commissioner’s report to ensure the TfL Board is aware of both levels and trends in data to be able to better do its job and hold TfL to account.
