The south London club play Liverpool, Man City and Brighton before Christmas in a punishing fixture list. A mounting injury list will make this daunting task even harder.

When asked about the difficult run of games ahead, Hodgson said “Yes, four very tough games. Would it have been nice to have won tonight and get to 19 points?

“Yes it would. But we didn’t do it. We didn’t play well enough.” But Mr Hodgson has tried to stay positive saying “we haven’t lost them yet. Let’s wait and see.”

Crystal Palace have faced a series of injuries this season, with Tyrick Mitchell now joining Cheick Doucoure and Eberechi Eze as the latest Eagle out-of-action.

While Hodgson did not know Mitchell’s full prognosis, he said: “It’s an unfortunate injury. He was in good form, playing well, we’d be very upset to lose him.

One of the clubs big summer signings, Mateus França, had his debut delayed due to a back injury. The club spent approximately £17 million with £9m in add-ons on the Brazilian teenager.

Michael Olise recently returned from injury after scoring the club’s 600th Premier League goal against Luton Town.
