Met officers were called to a private members’ club in Mayfair in the early hours of Tuesday when staff reported an attempted spiking.
The victim was a female guest of the venue which has not yet been named. Concerned venue staff alerted the police on Tuesday morning.
A 61-year-old man who has been named as Vikas Nath was arrested in the club and later charged under Section 61 of the Sexual Offences Act with administering a substance with intent.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court from 14:00 GMT on Wednesday.
