Haringey Council are planning to install a fence to deter illegal activity at a knife-crime hotspot.
The area between the south entrance to Finsbury Park and Lidl (on Seven Sisters Road), has been a site for criminal activities like shoplifting, theft, pickpocketing, drug-dealing and knife-attacks.
Haringey council believe that putting fences in the area could help prevent illegal activities and protect the local community.
One of the security guards in the nearby Lidl, said the supermarket “loses fifty-thousand pounds every three months to thieves and shoplifters.”
However, the plans have not been received as warmly as was hoped.
A local resident told City News, “Just building the fence is not going to help the issue. The Council is not taking logical steps to curtail the crime rates in this area. It is intimidating to even cross this area after sunset.”
This is all part of Haringey Council’s ‘Week of Action’, which started on Monday. The initiative aims to prevent and tackle crimes in the borough, and work towards a safer atmosphere for the local public.
Our latest #WeekOfAction is getting underway in Hermitage and Gardens.
Drop by to one of our daily hubs at Haringey Retail Park, or Stamp Brasserie tomorrow, to speak to council officers about the issues that matter to you.
