The Metropolitan Police have admitted that Abdul Shakoor Ezedi ‘may have been known to the police’, according to Supt Gabriel Cameron.

Abdul Ezedi is suspected of carrying out the alkali attack in Clapham Common, which left mother (31) and one of her two daughters (3) with ‘potentially life-changing’ injuries.

A manhunt is under way for the 35 year old, who is believed to be from the Newcastle area. A police description described the suspect as having “significant injuries to the right side of his face.”

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley told BBC News that Abdul Ezedi is believed to be known to the victims.

The public have been warned not to approach the suspect who was last seen near Caledonian Road in North London.

“We are hunting for him as we speak”, he went on to say.

At least eight others, including five police officers,  suffered minor injuries during the response to the attack.

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, described the incident as “truly shocking” and paid tribute to the officers and members of the public who helped.

One of these responders was Clapham resident Shannon Christi, who said she helped the younger daughter at a nearby hotel. She also described feeling burning and tingling on her own skin.

As of yet, no arrests have been made.

Police have said that they are looking for a man who fled the scene, and have called on members of the public with information to call 101 immediately.
