Data released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) shows 19.8% of offences recorded as homicides in England and Wales took place in London.
117 of the 590 murder offences across England and Wales between April 2022 and March 2023 took place in the capital.
Figures also show murder rates in London are at their lowest in over five years. The number of offences recorded by the Met and City of London police forces decreased by 11.4% in comparison with 2021-2022 figures, from 132 to 117.
National homicide rates have also decreased by 13.7% since the previous year, from 684 to 590 offences.
The last time homicide rates were lower in the capital was between 2016-2017, at 110 recorded offences. Figures are 7.3% higher than ten years ago, where 109 murders took place in London.
Nationally, figures are at their lowest since March 2021, where ONS says the COVID-19 lockdown supressed violence in public spaces.
The rate of offences in London per million of the population between April 2020 and March 2023 is 14.1. The national average is 10.3.
