Two of London’s finest, Ben Proud and Laura Stephens are amongst the 20 representing Great Britain this month in the World Aquatics Championships held in Doha.

The swimming competition, taking place since 1973, showcases six aquatic disciplines. These are, swimming, diving, high-diving, open water swimming, artistic swimming and water polo. It is the World Aquatics’ biggest event to date and takes place biennially.

The event, which started on the 2nd of February runs until the 18th. Team GB have so far claimed Bronze in the 4×100 Mixed Relay with many more races ahead to bring home the Gold.

Ben Proud made his claim to fame after being the only person to have won the World, European and Commonwealth swimming titles within the same year.

A few of his other notable debuts include the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Proud, best known for his Sprint Freestyle, currently has 8 Gold, 9 Silver and 7 Bronze Aqua and Olympic medals and isn’t set to compete until the 16th of February in the Men’s 50m Freestyle in Doha.

Laura Stephens, who made her debut at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics has quickly become one of Great Britain’s best butterfly swimmers. So far, she has acquired impressively, 4 Gold Medals, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze. One of her most notable performances was the 2023 British Swimming Championships.

After qualifying for the meet at the semi-finals in Doha, Stephens, who is best known for her Butterfly races, is set to compete today in the Women’s 200m Butterfly.
