Ben White: “I think this is the first time I’ve actually settled and known I am not going anywhere in the summer."

Arsenal defender Ben White, has said he he doesn’t want to be selected for the England national team. England’s manager Gareth Southgate has described the decision as a ‘great shame’.

The Gunners fullback, who has made four appearances for the Three Lions, last donned an England shirt at the Qatar World Cup in 2022. However, he left the tournament early due to “personal reasons”, according to the F.A.

There has been speculation that former Leeds and Brighton man departed after an argument with assistant manager Steve Holland, something Southgate has since denied.

The 26-year-old has been an integral part of an Arsenal backline which has conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League this season. He has also chipped in with four assists and two goals for the North London side.

Southgate admitted that he would have liked White to have been part of his 25-man squad at this years Euros in Germany.  ‘I can’t sit here and say he doesn’t deserve to be in’, he added.

He went on to reveal that White’s decision was revealed in a call from Arsenal’s Sporting Director Edu.

White signed a new four-year contract with Arsenal on Thursday. He described playing for the Gunners as ‘unbelievable’ and that he hoped to stay for many years.
