Under the BJP, India has grown to become the fastest growing economy in the world. According to the IMF, India’s real GDP is projected to grow at 7.1 per cent in 2023-24.
Modi also increased state welfare provision, and introduced a new space programme. In January, he opened the Ram temple in Ayodhya, in northern India, a grand ceremony seen as a triumph for India’s Hindu Nationalists.
His campaign has instead focused on targeting pro-Hindu voters at the expense of Muslim minorities.
The BJP has set a target of 370 of the 543 parliamentary seats on offer, up from the 303 it won in 2019
Results will be released on June 4 after six weeks of staggered voting.
