North Korea test-fired ballistic missiles off its East coast on Friday, one day after South Korea and the US took part in a joint jet drill that North Korea viewed as a security threat.
The missiles travelled around 300 kilometres before landing in waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.
South Korea’s Joint Chief of Staff said that the launches had been made from the East coast Wonsan Region at around 3.10pm.
They also said that South Korea will maintain “a firm readiness” to repel potential aggressions by North Korea.
North Korea have sped up weapons testing as they continue to expand its military capabilities.
Last week, North Korea leader Kim Jong Un supervised another test of a new multiple rocket launch system.
North Korea has maintained that it was forced to boost its nuclear and missile programmes to deal with US-led hostility.
It’s said that North Korea likely believes that an upgraded weapons arsenal would give it leverage to win greater concessions from the US.
On Thursday, two South Korean jets and two US jets were mobilised for aerial exercises over the central region of South Korea.
The North’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the US’ joint training with South Korea was “clear proof of the hostile nature of the US.”
They also accused “the military gangsters” of South Korea of intensifying tensions and continuing with their “master’s confrontation scheme” against the North.
