COUNTER TERRORISM POLICING NORTH EAST
Moroccan asylum seeker Ahmed Alid, 45, has been jailed at Teesside Crown Court for life with a minimum term of 45 years for murdering Terence Carney, 70, who he stabbed six times in Hartlepool in “revenge” for the Israel-Hamas conflict.

A Pro-Palestinian protester who killed a 70 year-old pensioner and tried to attack his roommate has been jailed for life.

The judge described the murder as a “terror attack”.

When reading his sentence, the judge said Alid “hoped to frighten the people of Britain and undermine the freedoms they enjoy”.

Ahmed Ali Alid carried out the attack eight days after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th. He was found guilty at Teeside Crown Court.

Police say he stabbed Terence Carney, 70, six times in Hartlepool Town Centre in the early morning of October 15.

He then broke into the bedroom of his housemate, Javed Nouri, and attacked him in his sleep.

Doorbell camera footage showed Mr Carney, who was out walking in the town centre, cry out “No, no” as he was stabbed by the stranger.

Following the officer’s arrival, Alid shouted “Allahu Akbar” – “God is great”, during his attack on Javed Nouri.

Prosecutors at Teesside Crown Court said it was not a frenzied attack but a deliberate attempt to target Mr Carney’s body repeatedly before he walked off, leaving his victim for dead.

Jonathan Sandiford KC, prosecuting, had told the court: “he said he had committed the attempted murder of Javed Nouri and the murder of Mr Carney in revenge for what he believed to be the killing of children by Israel.”

Mr Sandiford added that Alid “swore on Allah that, if he’d had a machine gun and more weapons, he would have killed more victims”.

In a holding cell at Middlesborough police station after his arrest, Alid gave a speech in Arabic saying that “Allah willing, Gaza would return to be an Arab country”.

Alid denied murder, attempted murder and assaulting the two officers, claiming he did carry out the stabbings but without intention to kill or cause serious harm.

He was found guilt of all four charges last month.
