A murder investigation is now underway after a man in his 40s has died from gunshot wounds in North London.

At 09:00 this morning  police responded to reports of gun fire and a wounded individual. The location of the incident was Waltheof Gardens , Tottenham, N17.

Emergency services attempted to save the man but he died on the scene.

An active police cordon is currently in place.

Detective Chief Superintendent, Caroline Haines, in charge of North London Policing said:

There have been no arrests made but officers are still carrying out vital enquiries… we would encourage you to speak with the increased police presence in the area with any concerns.

She then expressed sympathies for those affected: “I am devastated by the tragic loss of life, and I recognise the concern that this incident will cause for local residents.”

An appeal to the public has been issued urging those with any further  information to come forward.
