More than 100,000 people attended the convention at the ExCel Centre between the 25th – 27th October, with many choosing to dress up in elaborate cosplay.
Comic-Con in a nutshell
Comic-con is a fan convention with a strong focus on anime, gaming, comic books and films – which make up a large part of pop-culture today.
Fans have the chance to attend panels, meet the stars of their favourite shows and films, and purchase memorabilia from the 450 stands available.
People get the opportunity to engage with others who have like-minded interests and bond over their love of the same content.
For the first time, this year’s MCM Comic-Con combined with the EGX Gaming convention, attracting an even wider audience than in previous years.
‘Comic-Con is for everyone’
There is an overwhelming sense of excitement and fun at Comic-Con events and this all stems from the passion that the fans bring with them.
The Comic-Con community is welcoming of everyone. People are approachable and aren’t afraid to speak to other fans and bond over a shared interest in the same content.
It’s important for people at Comic-Con to express who they are and the inclusive nature at the convention allows for a diverse fanbase to develop.
Events such as as the MCM Comic-Con foster a strong sense of community and encourage a culture where people can be themselves without the fear of being judged by others.
”Comic-Con is for everyone”, one fan told me, and this was the very much the mood and feeling of the weekend.
‘London is such a hub’
Fans also highlighted the benefits of hosting the convention in London.
”London is such a hub”, said one Comic-Con goer. ”You end up with so many more different types of people just because it is London.”
”Biggest one”, another told me, ”Got a bunch of friends I’ve made for it so it’s nice to see them every year. I’ve got friends who live in Scotland who have come all the way down which I never get to see.”
London’s size is able to attract a larger audience than other conventions across the country.
The accessibility makes the city an easy place for wider audiences to reach and let the fanbase grow even further.
