Chris Webb, Labour MP for Blackpool South was attacked outside his flat in London.

Labour MP, Chris Webb, has been mugged by a masked gang on bikes on the way back to his flat in London. The attack comes during a spike in phone related robberies across the UK.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at 21:55hrs on Monday, 4 November following reports of a robbery on Lambeth Walk.

“The victim was approached by a group of men who stole his phone from his hand. Enquiries remain ongoing.”

City News contacted the Met Police for further information but received no response.

The MP for Blackpool South was unhurt and took to X to praise the Met officers who attended the scene:

“Last night, as I was returning to my flat in London, I was attacked and mugged by a group of individuals. Luckily, I have no injuries and I am ok. Unfortunately, they just took my phone so I’m without one for the foreseeable future. I want to thank the @metpoliceuk
for their swift response and support. The officers who assisted me went above and beyond. They are a remarkable credit to the force.”

He does not think he was targeted for being an MP, but rather that it was a case of “wrong place, wrong time”.

There were approximately 66,500 phone thefts recorded in London between October last year and September this year. This is a 40 per cent increase from last year.

The Government has promised to address rising “snatch thefts”, which include 78,000 stolen phones or bags in the past year. This is a 153 percent increase from the previous 12 months.
