Many hospitality venues have closed during the pandemic, but Clerkenwell now has a new coffee spot. The Clerkenwell Kiosk is a take-away cafe serving freshly brewed coffee and baked pastries out of the old park rangers hut in St James’ Churchyard. It’s creator, Rosie Hore, is a former arts editor at the Royal Academy of Arts.

She says now is a good time to open but she admits she can’t wait for restrictions to loosen so more people can enjoy her new kiosk.

“It’s been a busy first week, we’ve sold out all of our baked goods every day we’ve been open so far…I am so ready for this area to get back open again though, Exmouth market for example, there is so much amazing food and drink and hospitality around here, so we can’t wait to get everyone back”.

The former arts editor says it has always been a dream of hers to set up a business in her local area: “It’s a really important part of London to me, it feels like home and I think doing something, working in the community that you are connected with is really important”.

Having previously worked at the Royal Academy of Arts, Miss Hore says deciding to start her own business has been transformative. “It’s been a really life changing thing for me and that’s when I realised, I couldn’t go back to what I was doing before”.

She is going to every effort to give the park the best service: “Making someone’s coffee is important, you know, you really don’t want to mess it up – I wanted to make sure that I would be welcome in the park, this is a park that people care a lot about, and I want to add to it”.

“I hope it can be a place where people can come and have a chat, meet some people, it’s been great to see when you make someone a coffee and make the next person a coffee and they get chatting”.

The Clerkenwell Kiosk will be open from 07:30 to 17:00 seven days a week.
