Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters are at the scene of a gas leak on Jonathan Street in Vauxhall.
Around 200 residents of the area were evacuated by the London Fire Brigade.
A 100-metre cordon is currently in place.
Jonathan Street and surrounding roads have been closed.
Two people received medical treatment and a respite centre has been set up for those who have been displaced from their homes.
