Arsenal legend, Martin Keown, has questioned Mesut Ozil’s work ethic following Arsenal’s recent disappointing performances. The former Gunner has urged Ozil to “up his game” and improve his work rate if he wants to remain a key figure at the Emirates.
Arsenal have been in disappointing form, dropping below North London rivals Tottenham, into a familiar fourth place in the league.
Many critics are looking towards Mesut Ozil to blame after a poor performance against Hull on Saturday. Arsene Wenger has admitted that he expects more from the World Cup winner, sparking speculation that Ozil may be dropped to the bench ahead of their big game against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Martin Keown believes the 28-year-old midfielder has exceptional creative prowess, supported by his impressive assist records last season, but says the attacker needs to offer more off the ball and in defence. “He is a sort of icing-on-the-cake type player”, Keown quoted by Standard Sport ahead of the encounter with the Bundesliga leaders.
Arsenal may have warmed up after their win against Hull City, however fans remain negative as the future of the club, the manager and key players seem unclear.
