The London Youth Games for Boccia are underway this week.
Boccia is a disabled sport that can be played by disabled athletes individually, in pairs or in teams of three.
Similar to the French sport Pétanque, players compete by tossing a ball using hands, feet and/or an assistive device and attempt to get it as close to a target called a white ‘jack’ ball as possible.
The closer you get the more points you get, and at the end, whoever has the most points wins.
Teams from Hackney and Haringey have progressed to the next round. Denzel Manyande, development officer for the London Youth Games, told City News that ‘the players represent the best and it’s great to be bringing this level of competition locally.’
