Hackney Lido faces further delays to its opening following refurbishment.
SHARE:
London Fields Lido in Hackney is a 50m Olympic size, heated outdoor swimming pool. It is meant to be open all year. However, the pool was closed in for refurbishment in April and was meant to be completed in September. Now the reopening of the pool has been delayed for a second time .
Councillor Jon Burke, Cabinet member for Energy, Sustainability and Community services has stated that London Fields Lido shall remain closed due to further delays in repairs and refurbishment of the pool, changing rooms and reception area.
Despite most of the works being finished, the main delay that is stopping the pool from opening is due to health and safety reasons. Such as the surfaces surrounding the pool to be completely safe and clean.
Along side the public, Hackney Council is also expressing extreme frustration. ‘The contractor is working through a series of defects to agreed deadlines. We have made it clear to the contractor that the Council will not accept a substandard finish, so the pool cannot and will not open until this is achieved.’
The council will notify the public with an update on when these refurbishments will finally be done but there is still no set date.
