Aubameyang was the Bundesliga's top scorer last season, with 31 goals.

The bid for Aubameyang comes as Arsenal look to replace the recently departed Alexis Sanchez, who moved to Manchester United earlier this week.

Aubameyang, who previously played for Saint-Etienne prior to joining Dortmund, is at the top of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s wish list.

However, it is likely that it will take a bid in excess of £50m to prise the Gabon international striker away from the German club, particularly with the striker being the Bundesliga’s top scorer last season, with 31 goals.

Another option for the Gunners is to offer French striker Olivier Giroud as a makeweight in the deal. Giroud has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season, with most of his appearances coming off the bench.

Should the deal for Aubameyang fall through, it may not be the end of the world for Arsenal, having overcome a strong Chelsea side last night 2-1 to go through to the final of the Carabao Cup. Arsene Wenger said in his press conference that Arsenal are now playing with more ‘clarity’, after the departure of Alexis Sanchez. They will face league leaders Manchester City in the final.
