Tottenham will face Rochdale in the FA Cup 5th Round after Spurs beat Newport County 2-0 in a replay on Wednesday night.
Questions were raised about the playing surface during Rochdale’s 1-0 win over Millwall on Tuesday night.
Rochdale’s last two home games have been postponed due to the state of the pitch, and the rugby league team that shares the Crown Oil Arena had to cancel its last match.
The Rochdale Hornets said in a statement: “Rochdale AFC have installed a dome-type pitch cover to dry the surface out to allow them to access to carry out vital drainage repairs which will involve a ‘drill and fill’ technique to drain surface water.”
Rochdale AFC have reached the FA Cup 5th Round for only the third time in their history.
Their manager Keith Dale described the chance to play Spurs as the “ultimate dream”.
Tottenham boss Maurico Pochettino is concerned about the state of the pitch.
Speaking after Spur’s 2-0 win over Newport, he said: “Rochdale? I hear it’s not in the best condition,”
“The conditions are for them as well as us. The FA Cup is difficult – look at this replay against a League Two team.”
