Boxer Slavisa Gegic, who studies biomedical science at London Metropolitian University, defeated Omar Berry from Portsmouth University on a unanimous points decision in the final to claim the under 64kg title.
Gegic told City News:
“I beat the first two opponents comfortably (in the quarter and semi finals), but that last guy (Omar Berry) was tough, I have nothing but respect for him. It’s the biggest win of my career so far. I want to win more.”
Gegic said “I took up boxing as a hobby in 2016 and joined the Islington amateur academy. But within three or four weeks, they moved me up to competitive bouts and I just went from there.”
Talking about his future Gegic says ‘I plan to continue with amateur boxing and I’m going to enter every competition I can. At the moment, I’m really enjoying myself.’
“Now I want to add to this win and I plan to get in four more fights this year.”
Next up is the Harringey Box Cup in June.
Gegic seems hopeful “If I can win that, that will take me into the 10 – 20 bout category. And then after that who knows.’
