In fear of impending Brexit, the City of London Corporation has published two proposals for an improved visa process for foreign workers.
The proposal comes after Theresa May has signalled a so-called ‘hard Brexit’ is to begin no later than March 2017, causing fear amongst City employers that their requirement for foreign talent will no longer be fulfilled.
The report’s first proposal is to enable local authorities to decide which applicants receive a visa based on a business proposal. This would promote economic development of cities outside of London.
The second proposal wholly empowers the UK Visa and Immigration to distribute and accept visa applicants centrally. It is not yet clear that any changes will be made.
