Islington and Lewisham are the first boroughs in London to have the Smart Benches launched in them.
Energy Company Strawberry Energy with sponsorship by Cancer Research UK have developed the urban device where users can charge their phones from ports on the benches, connect to a Wi-Fi network and donate to the charity via the contactless system.
Founder and CEO of Strawberry energy, Miloš Milisavljević says; “The main idea behind the bench is to help our cities become more livable and more comfortable for a modern person in the 21st century,”
5 benches have been placed around the borough with a further 10 benches set to be installed in Islington by the end of the month. An additional 80 are also set to be installed across London by the end of 2017.
Heathrow’s Third runway means more connections.
Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has says; “Heathrow’s third runway will allow more connecting flights with other UK airports”
He told the Commons that six regional airports could be added which would bring the total to 14.
The new airports are thought to be Belfast, Liverpool, Newquay, Prestwick Humberside, and Durham Tees Valley.
Mr Grayling also told the Commons that a third runway would generate tens of thousands of jobs and would be a major boost to the economy as Britain prepares to leave the European Union
