Islington children’s charity Place2Be launched Children’s Mental Health Week in the borough yesterday.

The aim of the week, say Place2Be, is to “encourage everyone – adults and children alike – to spread a little kindness.”

Place2Be is a national charity based in Islington. They run a children’s mental health week every February.

There is a high rate of mental health problems among children in Islington. In 2009 the number of 5-17 year olds with mental health problems was 36% higher in the borough than the national average.

A survey conducted in the same year found that only around 47% of children in need of support were seen by Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
