A prominent anti-crime campaigner has said that the Metropolitan Police’s gun amnesty is not working.
The Metropolitan Police launched the ‘give up your gun’ campaign on Monday.
Anyone who possesses a gun is encouraged this week to give it up anonymously to the police .
But, Gloria Morrison, who has worked with inner city communities for decades with JENGbA (Joint Enterprise Not Guilty By Association), doubts it will make a difference.
She told City News she didn’t think ‘police offering an amnesty was the way forward’.
Only 8 guns have been handed in so far.
The Metropolitan Police were not available for interview, but gave City News this statement:
“Our aim is to remove al illegal firearms from the streets of London and we work relentlessly to disrupt and arrest anyone suspected of being involved in gun crime. We are urging anyone holding an illegal firearm to hand it into police this week’.
