Drivers of cars registered before before 2005 will have to pay an extra £10 per day than drivers of newer cars for driving in Central London.
At present, cars driving through the city face a Congestion Charge of £11.50. However, older cars will face an extra £10 due to their higher emissions. These cars, which generally represent those registered before 2005, fall below the Euro 4 standard.
The Euro standards set the limits for exhaust emissions of new vehicles sold in European Union and European Economic Area member states. Modern cars must meet Euro 6 standards.
The system will be regulated by the cameras currently monitoring the Congestion Charge Zone.
