A new survey shows that a third of renters in the UK expect to be renting for the next 5-10 years.
The survey, conducted by Mccains, reveals that both younger and older generations expect to be long-term renters. Amongst 45-59 year olds, 52% of respondents said that they expected to be renting for the next 5 to 10 years. The statistics were even higher for the 60+ age group, with 76% saying that they expected to still be renting.
According to Chief Executive of McCains, Michael Thirkettle, the results may be a result of people being priced out on the market or a Continental shift in attitude, with people happier about renting.
Despite this, demand for privately rented fits and houses fell to two year low in the UK, according to the Association of Residential Letting Agents last month.
