According to the council, Clerkenwell lawyer Angus Hamilton was served a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) for breaking the Council’s recycling policy.
However, the Council’s website doesn’t state when residents are expected to take their refuse out on the street ahead of collection.
While Islington Council have voided the fine, they insist that placing recycling on the street outside the appropriate hours, is a criminal offence.
Hamilton was outraged for the unfair treatment received from his local council.
In an interview with the Islington Gazzette, he said: ‘The council is simultaneously trying to encourage recycling and issuing penalties for following that policy.’ He added: ‘I find it utterly ludicrous’.
