Basil the dog found his forever home, but not every dog is so lucky.

Ms. Simpson, the organiser of the ‘pup-up shop,’ was accompanied by faithful pooch Teddy Maximus. Together, they were selling puppy accessories and treats for the Trust.

Holly told City News: “It’s incredibly sad that many dogs don’t get a happy and safe home to enjoy, so that was really the driver behind the charity donation mechanic. When someone purchases a dog toy bone from us, we donate £1 to the Dogs Trust. They do an incredible job of looking after dogs, rehoming dogs, and getting them back to health before rehoming them.”

According to statistics released by the Dogs Trust, around 600 dogs are abandoned over the festive period.

The Dogs Trust revealed that over the festive period in 2016, they received 19 calls daily from people trying to give up their dogs. Sadly the Trust was not able to help them all.

The Trust encourages potential owners to adopt a dog. Megan Lomax, owner of Basil, said: “We knew that there were lots of dogs needing homes, and looking at all the Facebook rescue pages, and all the dogs looking for… they call them forever homes … it’s quite heartbreaking, how can you not give a dog that needs a home?”

The Pup Up Shop is open until December 12th.
