The Mona Lounge in Dalston risks being closed due to violence.
SHARE:
The Dalston jazz venue has been the scene of numerous fights and outbreaks of violence. This included an incident last year when a clubber was stabbed as he left the venue.
Police have described other incidents captured on CCTV, where people were filmed leaving the club collect knives, and returning to the venue with minimal security checks. In another specific incident described by Pc Amanda Griggs, a group of men are filmed leaving the club and attacking a group in a nearby parked car.
The venue promotes itself as having a “0% fight policy”, but police have run out of patience with the club’s management, and have requested their license be reviewed. This will happen at a meeting of Hackney Council on Tuesday 12 December. If the Council decides the venue is in breach of its license, it risks being closed down.
