The Gunners had two bids for Aubameyang rejected by Dortmund before agreeing a club-record fee of £57.5 million.

This eclipsed the previous record of  £46.5m paid for Alexandre Lacazette in the summer.

The striker becomes Arsenal’s third signing of the January transfer window, following Konstantinos Mavropanos and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Emirates.

The length of Aubameyang’s Arsenal contract has not been confirmed, with the club only saying the Gabon international striker has signed “a long-term contract”.

The 28 year old has been a star of the Bundersliga in the last few seasons, winning the golden boot last year scoring 31 goals.

The move triggered a chain of transfers with Chelsea striker Michy Batshauyi moving to Dortmund, and Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud making the move to Chelsea.

In other Arsenal news, German midfielder Mesut Ozil ended months of speculation by finally signing a new contract until the summer of 2021. With it he becomes the highest paid player at the club earning around £350,000 per week before tax.
