Across the UK, more than 20 rail operators are running a reduced service because of snow on the tracks. National Rail is reporting mass disruption in the South East, Scotland, the North West and the South West.

Roads appear a lot clearer and the delays on London Underground are improving. Paddington station closed from 08:00GMT until 10:30GMT due to snow inside the station. It has now reopened but with reduced access because of ice on the platforms.

Highways England have issued a severe weather warning. The public are advised to allow extra time for their journeys

Storm Emma could bring blizzards, biting winds and significant travel disruption to southern, western and central England, as well as parts of Wales and Northern Ireland.

Many underground and national rail lines will be delayed as a result of the adverse weather conditions. Fifty train stations in Kent alone remain closed this morning and a number of schools in the capital have also closed because of the snow.

Snow causes delays on the London Underground

There are currently minor delays on the Piccadilly Line, especially between Acton Town and Heathrow Terminals. The Metropolitan Line is also suffering severe delays due to a train fault earlier today.

There is no service on the London Overground between Highbury & Islington and Dalston Junction, and there are other minor delays between Clapham Junction and Stratford. There are minor delays on the DLR between Bank and Lewisham.

There is a good service on all other lines.
