90% of people say they are against the use of plastic straws.

City News discovered that only 27 licensed venues in Central London have changed from plastic straws to paper straws.

It was also found that 90% of people say they are against the use of plastic straws.

The discoveries were made after exploring the data from StrawWars and conducting a survey.

Plastic straws are widely criticised for the damaging effect they have on the environment.

The Marine Conservation Society believes that the UK uses 8.5 billion straws every year and points out that plastic straws are among the top 10 items found in beach clean-ups.

Numerous restaurants, including Pizza Express, JD Wetherspoon and Wagamama have announced that plastic straws would be only made available on request or phased out.

The Queen also joined the movement against single plastic use when she reduced plastic straw usage at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Straws are single use and a bar could go through hundreds of straws in a single night.

Venues around London have been pledging to change their ways and make the switch, but so far it appears that the promised change has been slow to come.

This is despite support from customers around London.

The latest venue to make the change in Central London is The Exmouth Arms. General Manager Phoebe Smith told City News that ‘customers are very happy with the change’.
